(this post was written in response to the incredible message BCoop brought to Fuse* Wednesday night)
“What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.”
-James 4.14
“Man is like a breath; his days are like a passing shadow.”
-Psalm 144.4
Urgency. You have to have it. What if, for whatever reason, God gave you less than a year to live? Perhaps you have cancer…or some other debilitating disease. How differently would you live your life? How would your interactions with the people you see every day change? How would your attitude be changed, knowing your few days left on the earth? As each day passes you by, you become one day closer to your impending death–your departure from this world. What will change?
The way you spend your money–will that change? How you spend your time–will that change? How you use your talents and gifts–will that change? How would you live your life, knowing you have less than a year left?
What if we all lived a life that reflected the urgency of God’s Kingdom?
Would you still be complacent about your friends and family that are on the fast track to hell? Would you care more or less about the dying souls all around you? Could it be that the urgency with which we live our lives changes lives forever?
We don’t have long to live in this world. You may have five years or fifty years left, but why waste any of it?
