The Fellowship

42 And a they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. 43 And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. 44 And all who believed were together and had all things in common. 45 And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. 46 And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.
- Acts 2:42-47

In light of this passage, we see that God did amazing things at the outset of the Church’s foundation (he “added to their number” daily). I see a cause-and-effect relationship here, in that the lives the believers lived became a testimony to the outside world, and God saved tons of people every day.

Two questions…

What is stopping the Church today from living the way the early Church did, living in a holy community of faith, sharing what they had, and living in fellowship with one another?

and…

If we lived in the same manner as described above, do you think we’d see the same results as in verse 47?

  1. Johnston says:

I think we would absolutely see the same results. Right now God is working through us as we meet with each other, not even daily, and I know he will add to our numbers if we continue like this. So I know that daily fellowship would only result in even greater benefits and numbers.
